BizBeat: Nail salon opens in historic house

The owners of Kim's Nail Salon at 706 Missouri Blvd. opened a second Jefferson City location at 110 Bolivar St. late this month.

Polished Nails By Kim opened Dec. 18 in the Herman Harr House at 110 Bolivar St. Kris Nocula owns the salon with his wife, Kim. The shops provide four lines of pedicures, many services with nail powders and acrylics, and more.

Nocula said the community did a great job supporting Kim's Nail Salon after it opened in 2013. That support led the couple to open the new location this winter.

"We just kind of outgrew the space we opened in 2013," Nocula said. "My wife's idea was really to open up something different than all the other (nail salons)."

Built in the 1860s, the German-brick house once sat on West Main Street where the Missouri Secretary of State's Office now sits. In 1986, movers relocated the house to its current location on Bolivar Street. It's listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Given the rustic interior of the space, Nocula said, he, his wife and their interior designer wanted to create an atmosphere that felt more high end.

"This one, we wanted something more sophisticated," Nocula said. "We did a lot of antique shopping."

Nocula employs four people at each location. With the move into the new space, he said, he'd like to keep expanding his business and add more employees.
