The owners of Missouri Valley Mercantile and Missouri Valley Archery at 2436 Missouri Blvd. recently put the business up for sale because they want to retire.

Founded in 2006, Missouri Valley Mercantile and Missouri Valley Archery sell hunting and archery goods clothing, footwear and supplies by brands including Under Armour and Carhartt. It also sells bows from brands like Bear Archery, BowTech and Diamond it its archery pro shop.

Roger Haslag said this week several people have looked at buying the business.

With he and his wife entering their late 50s and early 60s, Haslag said the store performs well, but they want want to be able to do things without being held down to the store. As the couple heads toward retirement, they also recently sold three other businesses including Da Vinci Stone Gallery and Custom WaterJet Cutting.

Haslag also finalized the sale of Excalibur Signs & Decals to his son-in-law, Greg Baumhoer, in early October. Founded in 1989, that business makes screen-printed T-shirts and embroidered items like caps and jackets, as well as printed and digital signs.

"I've got a bunch of things we can do and not have to be held down to a 60-, 70-hour week," Haslag said. "Travel is the big thing. We like to travel."

Despite their yearning to retire, Haslag said when the store sells, he will miss talking to customers each day, hearing their stories and helping fill their needs.
