T-Mobile opened its first Jefferson City store March 30 as part of a plan to open 1,500 new stores in 2017.
T-Mobile also will open a new store soon in Columbia, spokesman Steve Carlson said.
A regional manager for the company said in a statement T-Mobile is excited to offer more service to the area.
"Jefferson City is an important area for T-Mobile, and we're excited to open our first location here as part of our nationwide retail expansion," said Kenya Dunn, vice president of the north central region for T-Mobile. "Our customers have told us that they like shopping in our stores for the personal experience."
The company ranked No. 3 among U.S. wireless carriers last year with 71.45 million subscribers, trailing far behind industry leaders Verizon and AT&T, who both had more than 134 million subscribers, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.
Still, T-Mobile and Overland Park-based rival Sprint made up ground last year by offering wireless plans with unlimited data, which prompted Verizon and AT&T to do the same.
