Good news for Jefferson City residents with a workout routine involving Capital Mall - and this doesn't address mall-walkers (although it doesn't necessarily exclude them).

New fitness center Studio 573 is set to open at the mall later this spring.

The fitness studio will replace Wilson's Fitness, which closed in December, in the space near Dillard's that previously housed Capital 4 Theaters.

However, Studio 573 will operate in a completely renovated version of the space with all new equipment, owner Erin Bidlack said.

Bidlack, who has spent 10 years in the fitness industry, noted a growing trend especially in larger cities of studios targeting a specific mode of exercise - offering only spin classes or only barre classes, etc. She believes the Jefferson City market would appreciate a somewhat broader fitness perspective but wants to bring shades of that focus to Studio 573.

"I'm trying to be kind of that one-stop shop specialty studio," she said.

She hopes to do that by offering a few types of specialty group training, including kickboxing, high-intensity treadmill and barre, a Pilates class inspired by ballet. Classes will be scheduled throughout the day - early morning, mid-morning and lunchtime - with evening classes potentially to be added in the future.

Studio 573 will also offer individual training.

Construction in progress also includes a full smoothie bar, where child care will be available, and which Bidlack may eventually expand to offer food and snacks. A full locker room will include showers, and there will be a small retail area with clothing items.

The pricing setup will allow customers to purchase unlimited memberships or pay per session.

Bidlack hopes to finish the renovation process and open Studio 573 during May and will announce plans for a grand opening closer to that time.
