Work has begun on the Jefferson City area's fourth Dollar General store.

The new store, planned at 7723 Heritage Highway, just off U.S. 54 south of Jefferson City, is slated for a mid-spring 2017 opening.

"A traditional format Dollar General, the new store will have approximately 7,400 square feet of sales floor and will carry quality name-brand and private label merchandise such as health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing. We also sell an assortment of packaged foods, as well as some refrigerated foods and frozen foods," Dollar General spokesperson Nolan Miles said.

Dollar General currently operates stores on Missouri Boulevard, Schotthill Woods Drive and Business 50 West. The new store is located just a few miles from Brazito.

"We know convenience is a major factor in our customers' shopping decisions, as we generally serve customers within a 3- to 5-mile radius or 10-minute drive," Dollar General spokesperson Nolan Miles told the News Tribune previously.

The store will employ about six to 10 employees, he said.
