Two locally owned businesses are teaming up to offer treats both ice cold and fresh out of the oven to Holts Summit.

Mimi's Sweet Treats, a bakery that opened this past May on the outskirts of the town, will spend the winter in the 175 W. Simon Blvd. retail space of Summit Snow, a shaved ice shop that opened in July.

"Here we have inside seating and a display case, so you can come here and have coffee and doughnuts and pastries and stuff like that inside," said Melisa Stone, owner and baker of Mimi's Sweet Treats. "We've got much more exposure, and we've been able to expand our products as far as what's for sale because I have room."

Since opening up shop at Summit Snow in October, she has continued cooking up cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, cupcakes and so forth at the bakery's permanent location, 3148 State Road AA. While the more remote location also offered outdoor seating, Stone said the easier access has brought in more customers already.

"A lot of people didn't know where I was at out there or didn't ever make it out there, so people have been very excited to see me in town," she said.

Stone made contact with Summit Snow's owners, Jacob Neeley and Matthew Luadzers, through their mutual membership in the Holts Summit Community Betterment Association.

Neeley told the News Tribune in July they intended to scale back Summit Snow's hours in late fall and winter but stay open 10 months of the year. Even now, they're serving shaved ice treats on some warmer days after Stone closes up shop, she said.

Mimi's Sweet Treats is open at the Simon Boulevard location from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 7 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Stone plans to continue there at least through the end of April.

"We've talked about possibly staying working together and either sharing the space or finding another location," she said. "If it works well, then we'll probably work together."
