The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced it will open its relocated office and Missouri State Penitentiary Museum to the Marmaduke House on June 1.

The CVB first announced plans to move from its East High Street office to the historical building at 700 E. Capitol Ave. last October.

Also known as the Missouri State Penitentiary Warden's House, the building is named for the first prison warden to live in the home upon its completion in 1888. Marmaduke was the brother of Missouri Gov. John Sappington Marmaduke.

The CVB will lease the first floor and basement of the Marmaduke House, with the Missouri State Penitentiary Museum operating in the basement.

Located right across Capitol Avenue from the old Missouri State Penitentiary, the Marmaduke House will allow easy access to the CVB's prime attraction and easy access to ticket sales for visitors looking to tour the old prison.

CVB office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday; and museum hours are 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 p.m. Sunday.
