The outlook for Railwood Golf Course was unclear last fall when management announced it would scale back from 18 to nine holes.
But, as of May 5, the course is under new ownership and has reopened the full course, with other improvements in the works.
"We'd just like to give it a shot again, and I've got a lot of time and effort into it over the past two years," said Jim Johnson, who had been the course's general manager but now owns Railwood along with Norm Anderson, who had been a longtime member.
"There's nothing wrong with nine holes, but people like 18 more," Johnson added.
Railwood's front nine holes had been closed from January through April 16, but the course is now just as it was previously. And, its new owners are working to improve the clubhouse next.
"It's not really any major changes to anything on the course or in the clubhouse," Johnson said. "We have to do a little bit of remodeling."
However, they will extend the clubhouse's operating hours - likely to around 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. on weekends, rather than when the last golfers return - expand its menu selection and bring in weekend entertainment, giving more of a "sports bar feel," Johnson said.
All existing memberships will be unaffected, he said, and pricing remains the same - although Railwood will begin offering some specials leading up to an open house in mid- to late June, when improvements should be completed.
Railwood Golf Course, located in Holts Summit, is in its 17th year.
