Lashae Harden wants to dress her customers in one-of-a-kind accessories no one else in Jefferson City will be wearing.

Shae's and Moe, her new boutique at 301 Lafayette St., offers a variety of colorful shoes, handbags, jewelry, MAC cosmetics, underwear, men's ties and cufflink sets, and - as the name advertises - more.

"It's what I like and more," Harden said. "I was always getting this stuff for myself, and everyone always liked what I wore."

Except for a few handbags she buys in multiples, every item in the store is the only one she's selling.

"What is out here is what is out here," she said.

Harden, a single mother of four children who works in home health, was looking for a way to bring in extra income doing something she enjoyed. She consulted the Lincoln University Small Business & Technology Development Center for help with her business plan and took what cash she had to get started without a loan.

"I invested in me," she said.

The small boutique is located in the building that formerly housed JT's Quick Stop. Now completely redecorated, the only remnant of the last type of business it housed is the selection of candy for sale by the piece - so there's "something for everyone," even her youngest customers, Harden said.

Once business picks up, she hopes to expand to a larger location and add clothing and hair-care products to the boutique's selection.

Shae's and Moe opened in mid-May and is open Tuesdays through Saturdays.
