Jefferson City food service inspections for June 2016

Jefferson City's Food Code requires food-service establishments be inspected at least once every six months.

The inspections note critical and non-critical violations. Critical violations are the more serious, as they are more likely to compromise food safety and cause health problems. Critical violations often concern improper food temperatures, either on a stove/grill or in holding areas after cooking or before cooking, such as in a refrigerator. They also could involve plumbing repairs, personal hygiene, people who are sick handling food or contamination, such as pest infestations.

Non-critical violations are more minor offenses, which could deal with cleaning/ maintenance of floors, walls, ceilings, open waste receptacles, unshielded light bulbs in a food preparation area or a missing thermometer in a refrigerator.

The Food Code typically requires establishments to correct critical violations at the time of inspection when possible, or within a longer time frame not to exceed 10 days agreed upon with the regulatory authority. Establishments are required to correct non-critical violations by a date agreed to with the regulatory authority not to exceed 90 days from the time of inspection.

The June inspections noted:

YMCA-Knowles Grade Camps Summer Food Program, 424 Stadium Blvd., no violations.

Sonic Drive-In, 1711 Elm St., four non-critical violations: frame and access under fryers has grease accumulations; dessert fountain container lids have excess toppings caked on; drive-by hand sink lacks disposable paper towels; drive-by hand sink lacks hand soap.

Bee Line Snack Shops, 2205 Southridge Drive, four non-critical violations: soda fountain had splatter debris; cappuccino machines had debris; fan covers in walk-in cooler had dust accumulation; drinks on floor in storage closet.

Burger King No. 2271, 2207 Missouri Blvd., no violations.

Captain D's Seafood, 2118 Missouri Blvd., two critical violations: items on make table or in make cooler not at 41 degrees F or less; items in Dellfield cooler not at 41 degrees or less - and three non-critical violations: two microwaves had debris; McCall refrigerator had batter debris; floor in walk-in freezer had debris.

Follow-up inspection: No violations.

Chili's Grill & Bar, 3515 Missouri Blvd., one non-critical violation: floor tiles in front of fryers broken and in disrepair.

Chipotle Mexican Grill, 1400 Missouri Blvd., one non-critical violation: seals on front cooler torn.

Convenient Food Mart, 3714 W. Truman Blvd., seven non-critical violations: no covered trash can in unisex bathroom; loose food inside upright freezer; food debris inside upright freezer; food debris in bottom of dipping cabinet; cappuccino machine has debris; two of three lights in walk-in cooler burnt out; seal torn on Master Bilt cooler.

Daisy Delight, 2715 E. McCarty St., no violations.

Capitol Plaza Hotel/Fountain Court Lounge, 415 W. McCarty St., four non-critical violations: dish machine wash tank at 138 degrees F, not required 150 degrees F, but test strip did test adequately for final rinse temperature; grout worn away from floor tile at dish machine dirty side; kitchen triple sink spray hose handle is homemade from dish rag and electrical tape; detail cleaning of dust and wraps from walk-in cooler fans and condenser needed.

Hy-Vee Gas No. 1303, 3723 W. Truman Blvd., no violations.

Imo's Pizza, 706 Missouri Blvd. Suite D, one non-critical violation: vent hood over pizza oven has debris present.

Jefferson City Health Food, 1406 Missouri Blvd. Suite A, one non-critical violation: thermometer not present in cafe refrigerator.

Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches, 3750 W. Truman Blvd., no violations.

McAlister's Deli, 2323 Missouri Blvd., no violations.

McDonald's, 3124 S. Ten Mile Drive, no violations.

McDonald's, 815 Eastland Drive, five non-critical violations: line assembly table running above 41 degrees F at 57 degrees F (no food was being stored below); drive-thru creamery running above 41 degrees F at 52 degrees F (cream pouch was discarded while on site; unit to be defrosted and repaired before being put back into service); some missing/damaged wall tiles on way to store room; open ceiling above work line, missing tile/grate; shake machine has faulty O-ring in handle, causing pooled mix deposits near handle and hard-to-clean areas.

Mi Pueblo Bakery & Taqueria, 510 Ellis Blvd. Suite F, three critical violations: personal medicines and vitamins, etc., stored with food on shelving and some cleaners stored above food containers; meat slicer observed with dried meat deposits and small mixer observed with dairy deposits; bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods during vegetable chopping and during taco and other food preparation - and three non-critical violations: basement and stairway to basement cluttered with used equipment, toys, etc., that interfere with proper egress and food storage; food debris and grease on floor under ovens and behind fryers; wall by slicer is rough-textured, not smooth (easily cleanable).

O'Donoghue's Steaks & Seafood LLC, 900 E. High St., five non-critical violations: broken glass on bottom of bar freezer; cobwebs and dust on ceiling by kitchen windows; cobwebs in joist in food storage room downstairs; dust and debris on liquor shelving and wall around food storage in downstairs store room; food debris around base coving under dishwasher and upright freezer.

Pizza Hut, 1431 Christy Drive, two non-critical violations: counter around salad bar has an area that is chipped and cracked; shelves in walk-in cooler have dust accumulation.

Pizza Kwik, 1121 E. Miller St., one critical violation: foods stored in True two-slide-door reach-in cooler above 41 degrees F - and five non-critical violations: large dough mixer inside restaurant non-functional due to broken piece; hot and cold water to hand-wash sink turned off due to leaking gaskets; beverage three-door cooler running above 45 degrees F; make table interior above 41 degrees F at 45 degrees F; food storage two-door reach-in cooler running above 45 degrees F.

Follow-up inspection: two non-critical violations: make table interior still not adjusted below 45 degrees F to 41 degrees F; large dough mixer still needs repairs to be functional.

Taco Bell No. 377, 1905 Southwest Blvd., two non-critical violations: soda box cabinets split and need replacement, chemical cleaner cabinet front inside is delaminating and needs recovering of front edge, drive-by soda machine ice dispenser cracked, and ceiling tile near drive-by soda machine starting to fall out of grid; ceiling vents have dust accumulation, utility chase near drive-by line has dust accumulation, and wall panels above chip cabinet and above fryers have dust accumulation.

Eagle Liquor and Convenience Store, four non-critical violations: barbecue grill without screened-in enclosure used for food preparation in back outdoor area of food establishment; disposable paper towels not present at kitchen hand sink or bathroom hand sink; grease on stove surfaces; ceiling tiles above cooking equipment not clean.

Little Wonders Early Learning Center, 925 S. Country Club Drive Suite E, one non-critical violation: infants Kenmore combination cooler running above 41 degrees F at 44-48 degrees F.

Hook's Double Play, 512 Ellis Blvd., Suite R, three critical violations: bare hand (no gloves) preparation of cut/torn lettuce; on-site processed hard-boiled eggs at bar without refrigeration; home-canned green beans being used in bar for use in Bloody Marys - and three non-critical violations: GE line freezer running above 10 degrees F; customer drinking ice being used to cool cut lemons for drinks in servers' ice bin; bar and kitchen doing wash-sanitize-rinse or dry instead of proper wash-rinse-sanitize-air dry of glasses and utensils.

Follow-up inspection: two non-critical violations: keg cooler running slightly above 41 degrees F; GE line freezer running slightly above 10 degrees F (technician coming out soon to adjust).
