MC Sports officials confirmed Thursday that the Jefferson City sporting goods store is set to close permanently this September.

The store, located at 3535 Missouri Blvd. in the Wildwood Crossings shopping center, specializes in sports and outdoors equipment as well as active and licensed sports apparel.

The Jefferson City store is one of five MC Sports locations set to close or relocate in the coming months.

"Most of them are closing for pretty much the same reason - just a change in consumer traffic patterns in that particular location and our need to relocate in some cases, and in some cases we're having to close the store completely, quite frankly because business trends have changed over the years," said Ed Rix, vice president of marketing for MC Sports.

MC Sports in Jefferson City is one of the latter, and will not be relocated.

The nearest MC Sports to Jefferson City is in Columbia.

"That store is a very good store for us. It's in the mall and doing very well," Rix said.

While an official closing date has not been set for the Jefferson City store, Rix said it will be during September. Close-out sales began Thursday.

"Everything is marked down, and we'll continue that process until everything's gone," he said.

All sales on merchandise from the Jefferson City MC Sports going forward will be final.
