Capital Mall is adding to its selection of stores offering brand-name merchandise at off-brand prices, with Factory Connection set to open in late September.
Factory Connection operates more than 300 U.S. stores in mostly small markets comparable to Jefferson City. The Capital Mall store will fill the center-court space vacated by American Eagle when it closed in January.
"This is a great addition for the mall as it fills 5,500 square feet and offers a product that our customers will love," said Capital Mall General Manager Jamie Reed. "This is one of the first malls that they've been in, but they're starting to do more."
Factory Connection offers primarily clothing in juniors, misses, plus, men's and young men's sizes, as well as some home decor items.
The store's approach is similar to another recent Capital Mall newcomer. Ross Dress for Less, which opened its store at the mall in October 2015, also specializes in selling brand-name fashion and home goods at discount prices.
Reed said the approach is becoming more popular for malls, especially in small to mid-size markets like Jefferson City, as many brand-name stores are narrowing their physical locations to more urban areas.
"Ross has been very successful," Reed said. "I think it will be a good complement to everything else we've got going on here."
