Missouri softball tops South Carolina

COLUMBIA — Two runs in the first and three in the second was more than enough for the No. 14 Missouri Tigers on Friday as they topped South Carolina 5-2 at University Field to extend their winning streak to nine.

The Gamecocks scored both of their runs in the first inning before the Tigers tied the game at 2 in the bottom half.

Kirsten Mack was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Emily Crane to score. Sami Fagan then stole home for the tying run.

An infield single for Amanda Sanchez plated Kolby Romaine in the second. Taylor Gadbois and Fagan scored on the same play thanks to and error and a steal.

Natalie Flemming was the lone player with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3.

Paige Lowary (21-6) went the distance in the circle for Missouri, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out six.

The Tigers are 38-12 overall and 13-9 in the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina is 34-19 overall and 6-16 in the SEC.

Game 2 of the series is at 2 p.m. today.
