Your Opinion: Students honor senior citizens

Dear Editor:

Students often get a bad rap for their behavior. Not all students exhibit bad behavior. When they don't they deserve to be honored.

On April 30 the JCHS students honored senior citizens by hosting a free dance with snacks in the high school cafeteria. They prepared sandwiches, mixed vegetables, chips, cookies, cake, pie and punch. The food was delicious. While eating we guests were treated to big band music played by the Kapital Kicks. After eating we joined several high school students on the dance floor for a festive time dancing to many popular old time songs.

For senior citizens who had no dance partner the students offered to dance with them. We saw elderly faces light up with joy as they danced to the classic songs of 50 or more years past. The students also danced with each other. We all had an absolutely wonderful time for three hours. The students really enjoyed dialogue with the elderly, too. It was a great opportunity to meet new people and learn from each other.

Thank you students at JCHS for providing us with a fun night out and treating us with respect and dignity. May God bless all who participated in the Senior Citizen Prom.
