Jays top Helias in boys tennis

The Jefferson City Jays closed out the regular season with an 8-1 defeat of the Helias Crusaders on Thursday at Washington Park.

The Jays swept the doubles matches. Joey Mendez and Josh Morris defeated TJ Hagenhoff and Ben Mitan 8-4, while Karsten McMillan and Jackson Meyer beat Dalton Buschjost and Ryan Pollock 8-5. The duo of Jarrod Henry and Kyle Highfill topped Dylan Grawe and Tristan Grawe 8-3.

In singles play, Joey Mendez beat Hagenhoff (6-1, 6-0), McMillan defeated Buschjost (6-3, 6-2), Morris topped Mitan (6-1, 6-3), Meyer beat Pollock (6-1, 6-0) and Willoh edged Dylan Grawe (7-6 (6-5), 6-2).

The winner for Helias was Tristan Grawe in singles, who beat Henry 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Jefferson City (10-9) and Helias( 9-3) begin district play Tuesday at Washington Park. The Jays will face either Grain Valley or Battle while the Crusaders will play Fulton.

The Helias JV finished the season 12-0 after beating Jefferson City on Thursday.
