The Camden County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Thursday the identity of a homicide victim found on the Macks Creek vacation property April 25 is the missing caretaker, Gregory B. Webb.

According to a May 5 news release from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, the medical examiner used dental records from Webb to compare to the body due to the advanced state of decomposition the body was in when discovered.

Webb was reported missing by the owner of a vacation property near Macks Creek on April 20, the sheriff’s office had previously reported. When deputies went to the vacation home near Chapel Bluff Road in southwestern Camden County, they found a body in a wooded area behind the home.

Camden County Sheriff Dwight Franklin later announced because of the remote location and the need to develop leads, he had requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad.

Later that week, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office said while the body had not been identified at that time, the medical examiner’s office had determined the man was a victim of homicide.

Camden County detectives and the Lake Area Major Case Squad are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Webb’s death.

Detectives are also looking for several missing items taken from the crime scene at the time of the homicide, according to the news release. A mid-80s John Deere Model 400 lawn tractor and a black 4-by-8 foot carry-on trailer with one fender similar in appearance to the attached images are missing from the property. Several tools, sporting goods and electronic devices are also missing, the sheriff’s office said.
