MU softball rolls past Mississippi St.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Missouri Tigers softball team ran its winning streak to eight games Sunday by finishing a three-game sweep of Mississippi State in SEC action.

Missouri, ranked No. 16, pounded out 15 hits Sunday in defeating Mississippi State 9-2.

After the home team scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, the Tigers tied it with two in the fourth. Missouri then took the lead with a run in the fifth before adding two in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Amanda Sanchez, Chloe Rathburn and Kirsten Mack all had three hits for the Tigers, while Natalie Fleming had a home run and three RBI. Taylor Gadbois and Rathburn drove in two runs each.

Paige Lowary entered the game in relief with nobody out in the first and got the victory. She pitched six innings, allowing four hits and six walks while striking out two. Tori Finucane pitched the seventh.

Missouri opened the series with an 8-5 win Friday, then posted a 3-1 victory Saturday.

Mississippi State is now 25-27 overall, 3-18 in the conference.

Missouri (37-12, 12-9) is back in action Friday when it opens a three-game conference series against South Carolina.
