MU baseball posts win vs. Tennessee

COLUMBIA — The Missouri Tigers scored all of their runs in the middle innings Sunday to post an 8-3 win against the Tennessee Volunteers in SEC baseball action.

Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Tigers took the lead for good by scoring three runs. Missouri then added two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Zach Lavy had a two-run home run in the fifth for Missouri. It was his first home run of the season.

Jack Ring, Ryan Howard and Brett Bond each had two hits for the Tigers. Lavy, Howard and Ian Nelson all totaled two RBI.

Michael Plassmeyer pitched into the sixth inning to get the win. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out four. Cole Bartlett and Austin Tribby kept Tennessee off the board in relief.

Missouri opened the three-game series with Tennessee with a pair of one-run victories, beating the Volunteers 5-4 on Friday and 6-5 on Saturday.

Missouri (23-21 overall, 6-14 conference) will play Illinois at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Sauget, Ill. Missouri will resume SEC play with a three-game road series starting Thursday at Mississippi State.
