Your Opinion: Hypocrisy from left on nomination

Dear Editor:

I'm sick and tired of listening to the progressive left tell us conservatives that the Republican senators have a constitutional duty to have a hearing on President Obama's appointee to the Supreme Court.

In 1992, then Sen. Joe Biden said "there should not be a nomination to the Supreme Court during an election year." Biden even made the threatening statement "Bush better not nominate anyone," thus blocking any appointment by then President George H.W. Bush.

In 2006, Sen. Obama filibustered the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. Now President Obama says that the Senate Republicans should follow the Constitution and have hearings for his nominee. The Senate has a constitutional right not to accept any nominee. They don't even have to bring that nominee appointment to the floor for a vote.

Guess Obama only follows the constitution when it advances his agenda. Otherwise, he is more than happy to circumvent our Constitution.

The year was 2007 and then President George W. Bush still had 18 months left in his presidency when Sen. Chuck Schumer called for blocking all of President Bush's supreme court nominations. Sen. Schumer insisted to the American Constitution Society that "the Senate not only has the right but the duty to block Supreme Court nominees from a lame-duck president."

A few weeks ago Sen. Schumer decried the intent of the Republicans to block Obama's nominees to the court. Hey Chuck, it stinks when the shoe is on the other foot.

On another subject of hypocrisy, our president has condemned Donald Trump for advocating violence at his rallies. In 2008, when Obama was the democratic nominee at a rally in Nevada, he urged his supporters to "get in people's faces." In Philadelphia that year he told his supporters "if the other side brings knives, we will bring guns." Now that sounds like an anti-gun advocate. Sounds to me like he is in favor of riots and murder in our streets.

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy! That's all I hear coming from the left.
