Missouri baseball rallies against SLU in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri baseball team rallied to beat the Saint Louis Billikens 5-3 on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium.

Four of the first five Saint Louis batters reached base, plating two early runs for the Billikens. The Tigers scored one run in the bottom half of the first on a Zach Lavy sacrifice fly.

Missouri took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the fifth inning and held on for the victory, snapping a six-game losing streak.

Brian Sharp and Shane Benes each had RBI hits in the fifth. Sharp later scored on a wild pitch.

St. Louis got within 4-3 in the sixth after a single, a double and a groundout led off the inning.

Lavy singled in Brett Bond in the eighth to make it 5-3. Lavy and Benes each had two hits and two RBI.

Cole Bartlett (2-2) got the win in relief, allowing one run on four hits while striking out one in 21/3 innings. Liam Carter earned his first save of the season, only allowing one hit and a walk in two innings.

Brett Shimanovsky (1-2) took the loss for Saint Louis (12-13), allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one in one inning of relief.

Missouri (15-12) will look for its first Southeastern Conference win of the season when it plays at 6:35 p.m. Friday at Arkansas.
