MU softball goes 1-1 at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Missouri softball team split Saturday's doubleheader at No. 6 Alabama, winning Game 1 7-3 before losing Game 2 9-1 in five innings.

No. 16 Missouri led 5-0 in Game 1 before Alabama scored one in the third and two in the fourth.

Amanda Sanchez and Natalie Fleming both homered in the fifth to extend Missouri's lead to 7-3.

Sami Fagan had two hits, including an RBI double in the first.

Taylor Gadbois, Sanchez and Fleming each had two hits. Fleming had three RBI.

Paige Lowary (13-2) earned the win for the Tigers, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and seven walks while striking out three in seven innings.

Alexis Osorio (8-4) allowed seven runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out two in 42/3 innings for Alabama.

Madi Moore allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two in 21/3 innings.

The Crimson Tide took a quick 5-0 lead in Game 2, scoring two in the first and three in the second.

Emily Crane homered in the third for Missouri's lone hit of the game.

Alabama plated three in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game by run-rule.

Marisa Runyon had a two-run home run in the first and a three-run shot in the fourth for Alabama.

Sydney Littlejohn (11-2) allowed one run on one hit and a walk while striking out two in five innings.

Danielle Baumgartner (10-2) took the loss for the Tigers, allowing eight runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out one in 32/3 innings.

Cheyenne Baxter allowed a run on one hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Missouri is 24-5 overall and 3-2 in Southeastern Conference play.

The teams conclude the three-game series with a game at 6 p.m. Monday.
