Missouri softball posts 5-1 victory in taking sweep

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The No. 15 Missouri softball team finished off a three-game series sweep of New Mexico State on Sunday, winning 5-1.

Paige Lowary (12-2) threw 5 2/3 innings for the Tigers, who have won five straight, allowing five hits and one unearned run. She struck out seven.

Lowary earned all three of the wins in the series, throwing 14 2/3 innings and striking out 20.

The Tigers scored first on an RBI single by Regan Nash in the second. Chloe Rathburn hit a two-run homer in the third. She has a hit in four straight games and an RBI in seven straight.

Emily Crane hit a solo shot to put Missouri up 4-0 in the fourth. She finished the series with seven hits, best on the team. Morgan Walters tacked on Missouri's final run with a seventh-inning RBI hit.

Taylor Gadbois was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

The five-game winning streak is the third of the season for Missouri (20-4).

Missouri plays a doubleheader Monday at Texas-El Paso. First pitches are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.

The Tigers play a single game Wednesday at Northern Iowa before beginning Southeastern Conference play Saturday at Alabama.
