Gators take first two from Tigers

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 1 Florida Gators scored in five different innings Saturday on their way to a 6-2 baseball win against the Missouri Tigers.

The Gators scored two in the second, and one each in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth.

Both of Missouri's runs came in the eighth when Jake Ring doubled in Ryan Howard and Brian Sharp.

Ring had two of Missouri's four hits. Connor Brumfield and Ian Nelson each had a hit for the Tigers.

A.J. Puk (1-1) struck out 11 Tiger batters in seven innings of work to earn the win. He only walked one and allowed three hits.

Shaun Anderson earned his second save of the season, striking out two in a perfect 11/3 innings.

Tanner Houck (2-2) took the loss for Missouri, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

Graham Ruopp pitched 11/3 innings of relief, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Brian Shoaff allowed one run on one hit with strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.

The teams will conclude the three-game series with a game at noon today.

On Friday, Missouri got nine solid innings on the mound from Reggie McClain, but Florida prevailed 4-3 in 10 innings.

Down 3-2 heading into the ninth, Missouri pinch-runner Kirby McGuire scored on a Jake Ring single to left field with two outs.

McGuire pinch ran for Ian Nelson, who was hit by a pitch with one out. After a strikeout, Ryan Howard got an infield single before Ring's RBI single.

Florida only managed a single in the bottom half to send the game to extras.

But three Gators drew walks in the 10th, leading to a two-out, walk-off RBI single for Peter Alonso.

McClain allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits with eight strikeouts.

Brian Sharp took the loss, allowing one run on one hit with three walks in two-thirds of an inning.

Shaun Anderson struck out the side in the 10th for the Gators to earn the win.

Florida scored three runs on four hits in the first.

The Tigers got on the board in the fourth, thanks to a two-out triple from Zach Lavy and a Shane Benes single to cut Florida's lead to 3-1.

In the sixth, Trey Harris slapped a one-out double to right center field before Lavy dove him in with a single to right to cut Florida's lead to one.

Lavy had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. Connor Brumfield had two hits.
