Missouri softball sweeps doubleheader

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Sami Fagan homered twice in Game 1 and Natalie Fleming homered twice in Game 2 as the Missouri softball team swept New Mexico State 9-6 and 14-3 on Saturday.

Fagan went 2-for-3 with four RBI, three runs scored and a walk in Game 1.

Her first long ball came with two outs in the first inning. Her second homer was a three-run shot in the second to extend Missouri's lead to 6-0.

The Tigers led 7-0 after three innings before New Mexico State scored five in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut it to 7-6.

Missouri then added two in the sixth.

Paige Lowary struck out eight in three scoreless innings to earn the win in the circle. She only allowed three hits.

Danielle Baumgartner started the game, allowing five runs on five hits with a strikeout and a walk in 3 2/3 innings.

Tori Finucane walked two batters in one-third of an inning. Cheyenne Baxter faced two batters, walking one and allowing a single.

Lowary (11-2) started Game 2, earning the win by allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and four walks in six innings.

Baumgartner allowed a run on three hits in an inning of work.

Missouri scored one in the first, one in the third, four in the fourth, two in the sixth and six in the seventh.

Fleming went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Paige Bange (Helias High School) had a pinch-hit single to right field in the seventh. She ended up scoring on a Fagan single.

Fagan had three hits and three RBI.

The Tigers have won four straight to improve to 19-4 overall.

Missouri and New Mexico State will play a single game at 3 p.m. Sunday.
