Your Opinion: End smoking in Capitol offices

Dear Editor:

The following is a letter I have written to my senator, Mike Kehoe, and representative, Mike Bernskoetter. I urge everyone to do the same.

"Please say this isn't so. I've heard on the news that there is still smoking allowed in the Republican offices in our beautiful state Capitol building.

"The same article said this had already been stopped in the Democratic offices. Who do these people think they are - above the law of Jefferson City which prevents smoking in all public buildings? And no, these legislators do not own these offices; they belong to the public.

"Please explain this to me. I think there is a bill circulating that will prevent smoking and drinking in these offices. Please support it.

"Do you know of any other job people have where they can smoke and drink at their desks? Of course not. When are you legislators going to realize that you are not above the law? You have been elected by your constituents who have to obey the law, so why don't you?

"You wonder why the American public is sick and tired of elected officials? This is one of the reasons."
