Man arrested on warrant after traffic stop

A New Bloomfield man who was wanted on a felony warrant was arrested Jan. 16 after a vehicle stop.

Daniel J. Cassels was arrested Jan. 16 during a vehicle stop which led to a foot pursuit on Highway AE. Cassels fled his vehicle and was pursued by an officer around a convenience store and through the surrounding residential area, according to a press release from the New Bloomfield Police Department.

The pursuing officer directed Cassels to stop fleeing multiple times and then used a Taser to apprehend him.

Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found in Cassels' coat pocket; other controlled substances were recovered in Cassels' vehicle, officers said.

At the time of his arrest, Cassels had an outstanding warrant from Callaway County for failure to appear on charges of possessing controlled substances.

He was taken to the Callaway County Jail and charged with felony resisting arrest, four counts of felony possessions of a controlled substance and one count of felony possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $25,000 on the new charges, but he remains on a no bond warrant, which means he cannot meet his current bond until the bond for his previous charge is met.
