The beat goes on for the Jefferson City Jays.

Jefferson City won four matches by first-period falls Tuesday night and rolled to a 60-15 win against the Hickman Kewpies at Fleming Fieldhouse.

It was the 40th straight regular-season dual victory for the Jays.

"Winning this many in a row was never even a goal," Jefferson City coach Phil Cagle said. "I didn't even think about it until someone mentioned last year that we had won No. 25 in a row.

"It's been a great run with this senior class."

This year's seniors lost their first dual as freshmen before rattling off 40 straight.

"Undefeated dual seasons you want to accomplish because if you're a good dual team, it shows you're a good overall team," Cagle said.

With Hickman open at five weights Tuesday, the dual was all but decided before the first match was wrestled.

The Kewpies were open at the three lowest weights to make it 18-0 before Peter Kuster of Jefferson City posted a win by fall in :37 at 126 pounds.

At 132, Tanner Irwin made even quicker work of his opponent, getting a takedown and a fall in just :12.

The Jays won the next two matches by decision.

At 138, Reece Neighbors was a 9-3 winner. Neighbors, who was second at 138 while wrestling for the Jefferson City junior varsity at last weekend's Hickman Tournament, led 4-1 after one period and 9-1 after two.

Dennis Barnes won 6-3 at 145.

Barnes did a good job of fighting off takedown attempts by Hickman's Landon Wiswall during the middle of the first period before getting a takedown of his own with :25 left to take a 2-0 lead. The match was tied at 2 after two periods before Barnes pulled away in the third.

"Dennis wrestled a great match," Cagle said. "He was able to defend himself when the kid was taking shots and not give up the takedown. He wrestled hard the entire six minutes."

Jefferson City's two other wins on the mat came in :47 by Jacob Brune at 160 and :54 by Mekhi Burnley at 285.

Logan Moriarity at 170 and Jalen Martin at 195 both won by forfeit, as did Garrett Butel (106), Cameron Cooper (113) and Addison Canale (120).

At 152, Tyler Bise of the Jays fell 8-7. Bise was down 6-2 heading into the final period before getting a takedown and a set of back points to take a one-point lead. But a late reversal proved to be the difference in the match.

"It was a little mistake at the end, but it was a very good match for Tyler," Cagle said. "He's a sophomore and he's getting better, we're expecting big things from him in the future."

At 182, senior Chuck Green made his season debut, losing in the third period by fall.

"We wanted to give him an opportunity. I think a lot of what happened at the end had to do with experience at the varsity level," Cagle said.

At 220, Ian Coil was tied late in the match before losing by fall in 5:59.

"Ian wrestled a great match, it was just one little thing at the end that got him," Cagle said.

Jefferson City is back in action Thursday night against C.B.C. at Fleming Fieldhouse. The Jays are currently ranked No. 3 in Class 4 by MissouriWrestling.com, while the Cadets come in at No. 4.

"We're going to have several good matches with them, it should be a heck of a dual," Cagle said.

Action will begin with the junior varsity dual at 6 p.m.

Jefferson City defeated Hickman 57-6 in Tuesday night's JV dual. The Jays also won the lone exhibition match.
