Public meetings set for Rock Island Trail

State Reps. Tom Hurst and David Wood, and Sen. Mike Kehoe will host a series of three town hall meetings in Mid-Missouri to discuss the Rock Island Trail.

According to a news release from Kehoe's office, the Rock Island Trail has not received any state funding nor is it dependent on legislation. These public meetings, designed to ensure citizens know the available facts about this ongoing project, will take place in three towns:

Owensville, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Owensville VFW Hall, located at 604 West Jefferson Ave. in Owensville.

Freeburg, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the American Legion Hall, located at 310 South Missouri 63 in Freeburg, Missouri.

Eldon, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Eldon High School cafeteria, located at 110 South Pine Street in Eldon.

"The Rock Island Trail Project is a significant undertaking. It involves multiple phases and affects property owners and municipalities across Central Missouri," Hurst said in the news release. "Accordingly, it is appropriate that we have the opportunity to hear and consider input from citizens, as well as provide them an update on what we are hearing in the Capitol about this project."

"The Rock Island Trail is one of the topics that I get asked about most frequently throughout the district," Wood said, adding that Bill Bryant, director of Missouri State Parks, is being invited to attend and answer questions.
