Jordan Barnett's last game at Mizzou Arena went so well, he decided to call it home.
The St. Louis native's transfer from Texas to Missouri was made official Tuesday.
Barnett had 43 points and 20 rebounds at Mizzou Arena to win the Class 5 state championship with C.B.C. in 2014.
"We're excited to have Jordan join our Mizzou basketball family," Missouri coach Kim Anderson said in a release. "He's an outstanding basketball player, but most importantly, he's an exceptional young man from here in the state of Missouri from a good family.
"Over the course of his college career, Jordan has shown his potential in both the classroom and on the court. We know he is eager to represent his home state on the biggest stage."
Barnett tweeted Friday he was "now a Missouri Tiger," three days after Texas said he intended to transfer. He will be eligible to play as a junior in the second semester of the 2016-17 season.
"I wanted to come back home to play," Barnett said. "I've been around Mizzou a lot growing up, so I'm very familiar with the school. It really feels fitting that I'd be back here. I am excited to play for Kim Anderson, because I know he is a good person and a great coach."
Barnett played in four games this season as a sophomore at Texas. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward averaged 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in those games, playing an average of 8.5 minutes. In his freshman season, he averaged 3.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and six minutes per game. He scored 12 points in his final game as a Longhorn, playing just 13 minutes in a win Dec. 8 against Texas San Antonio.
Barnett was a highly coveted member of the 2014 recruiting class, considered one of the 100 best high-school seniors in the country by ESPN (86th) and Rivals (70th).
As a senior, he averaged 20.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, earning the All-Metro Player of the Year award from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He averaged a team-leading 17.7 points per game his junior year and 14.2 his sophomore year.
Barnett played under Missouri assistant coach Corey Tate with the St. Louis Eagles on the Nike EYBL circuit.
Barnett is the second player to transfer to Missouri from a four-year college under Anderson. Keith Shamburger came to Missouri from Hawaii before last season as a graduate transfer.
With Chesterfield native Ryan Rosburg set to graduate, Barnett would be one of three scholarship players from Missouri on the Tigers' roster next season, joining Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs) and Cullen VanLeer (Pacific). Puryear also won a Class 5 state championship at Mizzou Arena in his final high- school game.
With the additions of Barnett and recruits Reed Nikko and Mitchell Smith, Missouri will have seven scholarship players 6-foot-7 or taller next season.
Barnett has already enrolled at Missouri and is listed on the Tigers' online roster.
