Two-county chase leads to arrest

A man was taken into custody following a chase Friday night that went from Jefferson City and into Moniteau County.

According to police reports, police interviewed the suspect, who was not named pending the filing of formal charges, about a matter his girlfriend decided not to press charges on. An officer waited at the scene and saw the man drive off.

The chase started around 6:21 p.m. when a city officer attempted to stop the man on suspicion of DWI as he went south on Missouri 179 from West Truman Boulevard, traveling at speeds up to 75 mph.

He then went westbound onto Country Club Drive going 40-60 mph, then south on South Country Club Drive at Capital Mall.

City officers terminated their pursuit at 6:26 p.m. on South Country Club around the city limits, but Cole County Sheriff's Department deputies continued the pursuit, which headed westbound on Route C toward Russellville.

The man passed into Moniteau County going west on C around 6:38 p.m.

He reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign on Route C as he crossed Missouri 87 near High Point at 6:41 p.m. and shortly thereafter he was stopped and taken into custody.
