Scouts challenged at annual Klondike Derby

More than 200 Boy Scouts and leaders pitched their tents this weekend at Camp Hohn on the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation for the annual Five Rivers District Klondike Derby.

During the derby, about 20 teams of Scouts from different troops set off with a sled full of supplies early Saturday morning. By the end of the day, the teams would visit each of 10 locations, gathering clues along the way and competing against each other in a series of event challenges. At the end of the day, teams with high point totals were awarded prizes.

Events ranged from shooting sports to orienteering courses, fire making challenges and even tomahawk throwing.

Local troops from Jefferson City, Wardsville, Loose Creek, California and Russellville were among those competing in this year's derby
