Missouri women lose at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Razorbacks used a huge advantage at the free-throw line to upset the 24th-ranked Missouri women Sunday at Bud Walton Arena.

The Razorbacks converted on 29-of-40 (73 percent) from the charity stripe compared to just 12-of-15 (80 percent) for the Tigers. Missouri was called for 28 fouls and Arkansas for 19 in the foul-heavy game.

Arkansas had four players make six or more free throws in the game, with Kelsey Brooks and Melissa Wolff leading the way with seven apiece.

Arkansas, which improved to 8-10 overall and 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference, trailed 17-12 after one quarter by used a 20-9 second-period advantage to lead 32-26 at halftime.

Missouri, which fell to 15-3 and 2-3, trailed 43-42 after three quarters, but any comeback bid was cut off by Arkansas' 21-10 scoring edge in the final stanza.

The Razorbacks put five players in double figures in the win. Jessica Jackson led the way with 15 points, while Brooks had 13. Alecia Cooley added 12 and Wolff and Devin Cosper added 11 apiece.

Cooley and Wolff both posted double-doubles by pulling down 10 rebounds each. Arkansas had a 42-28 edge on the boards.

Sierra Michaelis scored a game-high 18 points for Missouri before fouling out. Cierra Porter chipped in with 14 points.

Jordan Frericks and Lindsey Cunningham also fouled out for Missouri.

Missouri is now 5-11 all-time against Arkansas and just 1-7 in games played in Fayetteville.

The Tigers return to action Thursday at Texas A&M.
