Help is on the way for the Missouri men's basketball team.
After a week in which the Tigers suffered a historically bad home loss and announced self-imposed sanctions on NCAA violations, word broke Friday that C.B.C. graduate Jordan Barnett will be transferring to Missouri from Texas.
Barnett, a highly recruited member of the 2014 high-school class, played for the Longhorns in four games this season, most recently Dec. 8. Texas announced Tuesday that Barnett intended to transfer and PowerMizzou.com broke the news Friday it would be to Missouri. Barnett later confirmed on Twitter he was "now a Missouri Tiger."
Barnett's remaining eligibility is still up in the air, PowerMizzou reported, but it is believed he would be able to take the court during the second semester of the 2016-17 season, the website said.
Barnett averaged 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game his freshman season, playing an average of six minutes. This season, he averaged 1.9 points, 1.3 rebounds and 8.5 minutes per game.
At C.B.C., Barnett was ranked as the No. 86 prospect nationally by ESPN. He averaged 20.8 points and 8.2 rebounds his senior season, when the Cadets won the Class 5 championship. He was the St. Louis American Player of the Year in his senior season.
With 10 scholarship players set to return and a three-player incoming class, Missouri's 13 scholarships for the 2016-17 season appeared to have been filled. As one of its self-imposed sanctions, Missouri must forfeit one scholarship by the end of the 2017-18 season.
