Your Opinion: Act to end violence

Dear Editor:

Fox News Channel critics of Obama questioned why he only shed a tear at the deaths of the smallest and most innocent victims gunned down at Newtown.

Tears are a funny thing. But the critics have a point. Innocents like these are slaughtered in violence from Columbia to Juarez, Los Angeles to across the Middle East and beyond. Sacred as the Second Amendment and the profit motive of the military industrial complex may be, they do not take precedence over Thou Shalt Not Kill!

Ninety percent of the American people support common-sense gun control measures, yet we continue to mourn tens of thousands of Americans gunned down every year. Where is the will of the people if this cannot be stopped?

We simply cannot continue to allow violence. We must sit down, study each violent situation, honestly understand the motives and the needs of the perpetrators, develop a humanitarian plan to bring the carnage to an end, and carry it out.
