The Jefferson City Jays are ready for a break.

"Our kids have wrestled nine matches in the last seven days," Jays coach Phil Cagle said after Jefferson City swept duals from Ozark and Nixa at Fleming Fieldhouse.

"It will be nice to take some time away from duals and get back to the practice room."

Practice will resume today heading into next weekend's Capital City Invitational. But before the Jays could step away, there were two duals to wrestle.

"Both of those teams are good, you can't make a mistake against either of them or they will make you pay," Cagle said. "We did a good job of not making those mistakes."

Jefferson City opened with a 63-9 victory against Ozark before besting Nixa 53-18 for its 38th straight dual win.

The Jays had nine wrestlers go 2-0 on Friday night - Garrett Butel at 106 pounds, Peter Kuster at 126, Christian Mayberry at 132, Tanner Irwin at 138, Gavin DeWitt at 152, Jacob Brune at 160, Logan Moriarity at 170, Jalen Martin at 195 and Tekoah Sage at 220.

Sage, who gave up around 40 pounds to each of his opponents, won both of his matches by decision in overtime.

"He wrestled great in both of his matches," Cagle said. "We want to see things like that from Tekoah."

Kuster, Irwin and Martin won both of their matches by fall. DeWitt won once by fall and once by technical fall.

The Jays won 13 of their matches by fall in the two duals, including three in the first period in the final dual with Nixa. DeWitt's win by technical fall against Nixa also was in the first period.

"As tired as we are, it was a good thing," Cagle said.

Cagle said the Jays are still battling for spots in the upper weights with about a month to go before start of the postseason.

"Depth is a good problem to have," Cagle said.

Just like Wednesday's dual win against Rolla, the Jays wrestled up in weight in several spots Friday. But Cagle said the Jays will be back down to their normal spots for the Capital City Invitational, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Fleming Fieldhouse.
