Boys Basketball: Class 3 District 8

WESTPHALIA - Fatima, St. James, Blair Oaks and Eugene were winners Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3 District 9 Tournament.

Top-seeded Fatima opened the night by blasting eight-seeded Steelville 63-33.

Then in a minor upset, fifth-seeded St. James toppled fourth-seeded Bourbon 64-50.

Blair Oaks, the second seed, outscored seventh-seeded Cuba 49-19 after the first quarter to roll to a 63-26 win.

The Falcons were up just 14-7 after one quarter, but expanded the lead to 30-10 by halftime and 57-17 after three quarters.

Ten different Blair Oaks players scored in the victory. Jason Rackers and C.J. Closser led the way with 11 points each, while Kellen Griep had 10. Rackers pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

In the final game of the evening, third-seeded Eugene claimed a 63-58 win against sixth-seeded Dixon.

In the first semifinal on Thursday, Fatima will meet St. James at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Blair Oaks (18-8) will take on Eugene at 7 p.m. Thursday.
