Your Opinion: End of milk delivery brings thanks, sadness

Dear Editor:

I bought a gallon of milk and orange juice at the store this week for the second time since we moved here. I had to call my wife for the color of the lid on the milk.

When our family moved to Jefferson City over 35 years ago we were pleasantly surprised that Central Dairy offered fresh milk delivery. With three young children this was another of the many things we liked and appreciated about Jefferson City.

With our delivery a month ago we read the note detailing the end of this valuable service. We were disappointed but understood the economics of the service and were appreciative of all those years of service.

I heard from one of the employees that Central Dairy and Prairie Farms did not make a big profit on it but really did see it as a service.

We wanted to say thank you to Central Dairy and Prairie Farms for these years of delivery service to the Jefferson City community and wish them continued success.

We also want to say a special thank you to the drivers who delivered the fresh milk so early in the morning, quietly putting it in the boxes on our front porch without even waking the dog. We are sure there are thousands of others in the Jefferson City area who like us, want to say:

"Job well done! Thank you. We miss you."
