High Brothers Lumber Company suffers $25,000 in damages in blaze Friday

The High Brothers Lumber Company store on Business Missouri 5 in Camdenton suffered $25,000 in damages in a Friday afternoon blaze.

According to a news release from the Mid-County Fire Protection District, firefighters were called to the lumber company complex at about 1:11 p.m. Feb. 12 in response to a large stack of wooden pallets that had caught on fire.

When firefighters arrived on the scene of the one-alarm blaze they found that the fire had spread from the pile of pallets and ignited a portion of the building's exterior wall of the manufacturing building.

Hose lines were deployed to the inside of the structure to keep the fire under control as personnel worked to extinguish the outside flames.

The pallet and structure fire was brought under control after about 30 minutes, however the flames also ignited a small brush fire that burned approximately one acre before it was also brought under control.

The damage from the blaze was contained to the exterior of the building and two rooms within the building. The business has remained open without interruption and will be operating as usual.

There were no injuries, however the owner placed the damage to the structure at about $25,000.

The cause of the fire is believed to be an ember from an adjacent wood burning furnace that ignited the wood pallets.

Mid-County responded to the fire with one engine and four tanker trucks. Units from the Osage Beach Fire Protection District, the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Camdenton City Fire Department assisted in fighting the fire. Also on site were units from the Camden County Sheriff's Office and Mercy Ambulance District.
