2016 Jefferson City sales taxes continue to exceed projections

Jefferson City's sales taxes have exceeded projections for the second month in a row, making it a good start to 2016.

February sales tax receipts, which reflect the December reporting period, show the city's 1 percent general sales tax came in $54,036 above projections, with the surplus for the first two months of the year coming to $140,377.

The half-cent capital improvement sales tax came in $27,007 above projections and is now $71,605 above projections for the year.

The half-cent parks sales tax came in $27,577 above projections and is now $72,226 above projections for the year.

With the first two months of financial data collected, the city's revenue forecast model is projecting a year-end surplus of roughly $703,000, though that number likely will fluctuate throughout the year as more data become available.

Sales tax projections are based on actual receipts averaged over the last two years.
