Jefferson City man gets 7 years in burglary

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in connection with a burglary in Jefferson City in February 2015.

Eric E. Arnold, 38, of Jefferson City, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing and resisting arrest. A charge of second-degree burglary was dismissed.

Police reports show officers were called to a residential burglary in the 900 block of Boonville Road.

When officers arrived in the area, a pickup truck was leaving the scene and was subsequently stopped by officers, who found a number of items that belonged to the owner of the burglarized home .

Officers also found forced entry point at a window of the residence, and neighbors described a suspect - Arnold - seen running from the area prior to officers' arrival.

The area was searched with the assistance of Buzz, a JCPD K-9, but Arnold wasn't found.

A few hours later while on routine patrol, the K-9 officer and Buzz spotted a male subject matching Arnold's description near the Runge Nature Center. When the officer began to stop, Arnold ran into the woods.

Giving chase, the K-9 team was able to tackle Arnold and take him into custody. Both Arnold and the officer sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.
