Chase, drugs land Jefferson City man in prison

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in connection with leading Cole County deputies on a chase in July 2014 and trying to get rid of drugs that he had in his possession.

Cody Williams, 48, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.

His sentence will run concurrent to other state and federal prison time he is currently serving in other unrelated cases.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department records show deputies knew Williams was at a trailer on Heritage Highway and had a no-bond warrant out on him.

When Williams was seen leaving the trailer, and deputies began to follow him, eventually catching up with him at Zion Road and Country Club Drive.

Williams fled down Country Club when officers tried to stop hime. He continued down Country Club to Route C, where there was another vehicle at the stop sign.

Williams drove his vehicle into the grass, went on the right shoulder and then went east on Route C and began throwing bags of a whitish, crystal substance from the car. Williams did this four times, dropping six to eight plastic baggies on the road after he emptied the contents.

When Williams approached the intersection of Rockridge Road and C, he went north onto Rockridge and stopped his vehicle.

Deputies were able to take Williams into custody without incident.

A search of the vehicle found a crystal substance on the driver's seat that was believed to be methamphetamine.
