JC man charged in burglary

A Jefferson City man has been charged in connection with a Cole County burglary.

Travis Scott, 26, of 1202 E. High St., is charged with second-degree burglary and stealing a firearm.

According to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement, the burglary occurred in the 4700 block of Route NN on Jan. 10.

Several pieces of jewelry, three handguns, a truck and miscellaneous items were stolen.

After several leads were followed and several individuals were interviewed, Scotts' name was brought up several times.

The victim said she used to take Scott to church several years ago and he was friends with her son.

Last week, Scott was interviewed by authorities and admitted to breaking into the residence.

He said there was a second person with him, but wouldn't say who it was. Scott also said they stole three guns, two laptop computers, some knives and an iPad. He said they did it on a Sunday because he knew the victim would be at church.

For committing the burglary, Scott said he received a small amount of methamphetamine and $100 cash.
