Lincoln softball loses pair at tournament

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - For the second straight day, the Lincoln softball team managed just four hits while losing a pair of games in the Southern Arkansas Softball Invitational.

The Blue Tigers mustered just one hit in the day's opener, a 7-0 loss to Cameron University, a leadoff single by Megan Heimbaugh in the bottom of the sixth.

Cameron ended up with 14 hits in the game, three of them homers.

Macie Kinsey started and took the loss, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits and three walks in five innings. Sarah Westhoff pitched the final two frames and allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk.

Lincoln then dropped an 8-3 decision to the Texas Woman's University Pioneers.

Texas Woman's got back-to-back two-run innings their first two frames. Lincoln cut it to 4-2 in the top of the fourth when Kiley Kerr had an RBI groundout to score Spencer Silva and Heimbaugh scored on an error.

The Pioneers got one run in the fourth and made it 8-2 in the sixth. The Blue Tigers closed out the scoring in the seventh when a sacrifice fly by Avery Myers scored Hope McLeod.

Madison Ragar threw a complete game for Lincoln, giving up eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and one walk. She struck out one.

Lincoln closes out the Invitational at 10 a.m. today with a single game against Newman University.
