Lexi Dickerson of Eugene pulls up for a 3-pointer as Sydney Linny of Neosho defends Saturday afternoon during the Central Bank Shootout at Rackers Fieldhouse.

Lexi Dickerson of Eugene made her final six 3-point attempts of Saturday's Central Bank Shootout game against Neosho at Rackers Fieldhouse in Jefferson City.

But it wasn't enough as the Lady Eagles fell 62-56 in overtime to the Lady Wildcats.

Eugene trailed by as much as 14 in the first half and nine in the second half, but Dickerson's game-high 34 points helped lead a comeback.

Eugene and Neosho headed to overtime tied at 49 after neither team could score in the final two minutes of regulation.

Before the overtime period, Eugene coach Mike Phillips said he told his team to get on the board first and then try to run the clock down after that.

"If we can go down and score one time, then all we have to do is stop one time and we can hold onto the ball the rest of the game," Phillips said.

But the plan didn't work.

Eugene missed the first shot of the extra period before Allison Burr, who had 12 points for Neosho, knocked down a pair of 3s in the first 1:30 of overtime to take a 55-49 lead. She had missed all four of her 3s in regulation.

Dickerson cut the deficit to four twice with free throws, but a 57-53 score with 35.7 seconds remaining was as close as the Lady Eagles got.

Sydney Linny, who had 12 points for Neosho, made 1-of-2 at the line to make it 58-53 and Caitlyn Jordan added two free throws with 15 seconds remaining to extend the lead to seven.

Jordan led Neosho with 15 points, 13 rebounds and five steals.

The Lady Wildcats added another basket with about 10 seconds remaining and Dickerson knocked down a 3 at the buzzer to make the final score 62-56.

"Against a Class 5 school, I'll take this," Phillips said. "The next time we play a Class 3 school, we'll know what to do. ... We wanted to play somebody that would be good for us, be a good push for us."

Down 38-29 early in the second half, Dickerson strung together some 3s that eventually led to a 49-44 lead with 3:59 remaining in regulation.

She drained two from the wing in the final 1:06 of the third quarter to cut Neosho's lead to 41-40.

Linny hit a 3 from the corner to put the Lady Wildcats up by four at the 6:10 mark of the fourth, but Dickerson came right back with a 3 from the right wing, one from the top of the key and one from the left wing to make it 49-44 Lady Eagles with 3:59 remaining in regulation.

"Once she gets hot you don't want to say anything to her, just let her keep shooting," Phillips said.

However, Neosho forced overtime with a MaKayla Hayes 3 and an Emilee Anderson layup.

Eugene turned the ball over four times and only got one shot off after Dickerson's 3 at the 3:59 mark.

Eugene struggled against Neosho's pressure in the full court and half court, turning the ball over 29 times.

"Their press really killed us the whole game, especially there at the end when we had the lead and couldn't hold onto it," Phillips said.

Luckily for the Lady Wildcats, Dickerson made 7-of-12 from beyond the arc and 11-of-15 from the free throw line.

As a team, Eugene shot 18-of-23 at the line and 10-of-24 from 3-point range. The Lady Wildcats shot 4-of-23 from inside the arc.

The defense also stepped up in the second half, only allowing five points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth quarter.

Neosho had 12 of its 14 turnovers in the second half.

"I really thought the 1-3-1 trap we ran on them - that was about the only thing they hadn't scouted on us - they knew everything else and I think that caught them off-guard a little bit," Phillips said.

Allison Isenberg helped with the defensive effort with four blocks and a steal. She also had eight points and a team-leading 11 rebounds.

"She battled all day," Phillips said of Isenberg. "She's doing a better job at posting up and showing her hands now. Early in the year she was just putting her hands out in front of her and now she's got a hand up."

Dickerson had three steals. Tori Adrian, Nola Polly and Alexa Belshe each had a steal.

Polly also had eight points and five boards.

Eugene will play Monday at Crocker, ranked fourth in Class 2, before hosting Tuscumbia, ranked sixth in Class 1, on Thursday.
