Jays romp past Bruins to extend wrestling streak

COLUMBIA, Mo. - It might have been the easiest victory in the streak.

The Jefferson City Jays captured their 42nd consecutive regular-season wrestling dual Tuesday night, beating the Rock Bridge Bruins 83-0. That is just one point from a perfect score.

"Getting to 42 is quite an accomplishment for these guys," Jays coach Phil Cagle said.

There were only four matches wrestled in the dual as the Bruins forfeited at 10 weights.

Winning by fall for the Jays were Peter Kuster at 126, Tanner Irwin at 138 and Zach Hurley at 145. Gavin DeWitt at 152 won by technical fall.

The senior group of wrestlers dropped their first dual as freshmen before rattling off the 42 straight wins.

Jefferson City is back in action Saturday in the Elite Eight Duals at Battle High School.
