Northwest Missouri State football player found dead

MARYVILLE - A Northwest Missouri State football player has died in his dorm room, cutting short an event to celebrate the school's fifth NCAA Division II championship.

The Maryville school said in a news release junior Nicholas Turner was found dead Sunday. The release said no foul player is suspected but that authorities are investigating.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports a celebration of the championship team was underway when head coach Adam Dorrell abruptly canceled it. Teammates were seen hugging around campus.

Turner recorded 22 tackles this season. He also had a sack in last month's national title win against Shepherd.
