EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The Jefferson City Jays went 2-0 Friday to start action in the Edwardsville Tiger Duals Tournament.
Jefferson City opened with a 3-2 victory against Triad, Ill.
Doubles winners for the Jays were Joe Willoh and Josh Jay (6-2, 6-3) and Jarrod Henry and Kyle Highfill (6-4, 3-6, 10-5 tiebreaker). Joey Mendez (6-4, 6-1) won his singles match. Falling in singles was Jackson Meyer (2-6, 2-6), while the doubles team of Karsten McMillan and Josh Morris also lost (3-6, 5-7).
The Jays posted a 5-0 win against Belleville (Ill.) East in their next dual.
Doubles winners were McMillan and Morris (6-2, 6-0), Willoh and Jay (6-0, 6-3) and Henry & Highfill (6-0, 6-0). Singles winners were Mendez (6-0, 6-0) and Meyer (6-0, 6-0).
The Jays (9-8) will compete in the semifinals of the tournament today.
