DEA: 240 gangs operating in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Drug Enforcement Administration says 240 gangs are roaming the streets of the St. Louis area, and most of their money is made through the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.

DEA agent James Shroba told KMOV-TV (http://bit.ly/1WuUnaA) that the gangs create a toxic environment. Shroba says gang members are constantly attacking each other due to the competition in the drug trade.

The DEA announced a "360 Strategy" in January in which it is teaming up with police, schools and the medical community to fight the heroin epidemic. Gangs play a key role in trafficking of heroin.
