County collects $500K more in taxes this year

The Cole County Collector’s Office took in more than $69 million in taxes for the year ending Feb. 29.

The County Commission on Tuesday accepted the annual settlement report from Cole County Collector Larry Vincent.

Vincent’s office took in $500,000 more than the prior year. He said 98 percent of current taxes were collected, and they have never gone below a 96 percent collection rate.

Vincent also said they collected 78 percent of delinquent taxes.

The majority of what was collected, $51 million, will go to school districts around the county. The next biggest portion, nearly $5.2 million, goes to cities in the county, followed by road districts with nearly $4 million and library districts with nearly $2.7 million.
