Truman Building getting new roof

Those fences and scaffolding are visible signs on the ground the Truman State Office Building is getting a new roof.

The Office of Administration is working with contractor C. Rallo Contracting Co., of St. Louis, who won the $2.089 million project, which is to be finished in September.

Office of Administration spokeswoman Ryan Burns said the project involves the “removal of all existing roofing systems and replacement with a new roofing system.”

Weather permitting, the work is beginning this week on the southwest corner along McCarty Street, with plans to move in a counter-clockwise direction — east along McCarty, then north along Broadway Street, west along High Street, and finally, south along the side facing the parking lots and Missouri Boulevard.

“The ballast (layer of rock) will be removed first,” Burns said. “Once cleaned and prepped, the roof edge will be sealed.”

The barricades will come down as work is completed around the building.
